Matches come back masked, first name and last initial only, so nobody standing at the counter learns your customer list.
New customer? Two more fields and they're in the system. Either way the front desk already knows they're here.
The kiosk is a plain lookup: it finds the number or it doesn't. Nothing about a customer's identity is guessed, generated, or inferred. That part of your shop stays boringly predictable, on purpose.

Any iPad with a browser works. Open the page, sign in once, and stand it on the counter. Setup takes about ten minutes.
